Not sure this is the right size?

Tell us the material, the area and the specification you have to meet. We will tell you which machine fits — and which one is more than you need.

The CQF20 is the smallest of the three CQF concrete cutters and the one built for joint sawing. It takes diamond blades from 14 in to 20 in, cuts to a maximum depth of 140 mm and weighs 95 kg. Power is an engine or an electric motor at 5, 7.5, 9, 11 or 13 hp, from Honda, Greaves or Crompton, so the same frame can cut contraction joints in a warehouse floor one day and a footpath outside the next.

Joint sawing is time-critical work. The cut has to go in after the slab will hold the machine but before it cracks on its own, which on a hot afternoon can be a window of a few hours. A cutter that is easy to lift onto the slab, starts first time and tracks straight is what gets the joints in on time; that is the case for the CQF20 over a larger machine on floor work.

CQF20 or CQF28

The CQF28 takes blades up to 28 in, cuts to 220 mm and weighs 160 kg; it is the machine for road crossings and thicker pavement. If your work is floor slabs, footpaths and thin overlays, the CQF20 does everything the CQF28 would do at a lower blade cost, because blade price climbs steeply with diameter and you would be buying 28 in blades to make 20 in cuts. Buy the CQF28 only if you regularly need to cut deeper than 140 mm.

Blade size and depth

Depth is set by handle rotation, and 140 mm is the most the CQF20 reaches with its largest blade. That is where contraction joints — cut to roughly a quarter to a third of the slab thickness — actually live, so it covers the joints in any normal floor slab. Fit the smallest blade that reaches your joint depth; it cuts faster and lasts longer.

Engine or motor

Choose the engine version for outdoor work and for sites with no supply, and the motor version for basements, plant rooms and enclosed factory floors, where engine exhaust is a hazard. The lower ratings suit small blades on shallow joints; take 11 or 13 hp if a 20 in blade will run at full depth most days. Both versions feed water to the blade from a 25 L tank; keep it full, because a dry cut overheats the blade and shortens its life.

What is included

Delivery, commissioning on your site and operator training on blade fitting, depth setting, water feed and cutting a straight line to a snapped chalk line. Blades and wear parts are held in Delhi rather than ordered against a container.
