A plate compactor goes where a roller cannot. Trench backfill around utilities, patch repairs, paver bases, kerb surrounds and the tight corners of any site are all work that a roller will simply never reach, and hand tamping will never bring to density.

Topall Impex supplies forward plate compactors at 15 KN and 50 KN centrifugal force, both rated to a 300 mm depth effect. Both can be supplied engine driven or motor driven, so the same machine suits a site with power and one without.

Supplied and serviced from Delhi, with spares held in stock.

FPC90 or SG 120D

  • FPC90 — 15 KN, 90 kg, 520 x 485 mm plate, 7 mm plate thickness. Light enough for two people to lift into a trench, which on most sites decides whether it gets used at all.
  • SG 120D — 50 KN, 150 kg, 710 x 510 mm plate, 10 mm plate thickness. More than three times the force and a wider plate, for paver bases and sub-base work where you need density in fewer passes.

Both are 5 HP and both reach 300 mm depth effect. Plate thickness is worth noting: 10 mm steel survives abrasive granular material far longer than 7 mm, so the heavier machine also lasts longer on the same ground.

What a plate compactor costs

The FPC90 is around Rs 38,000 and the SG 120D from about Rs 1,10,000. For most contractors the honest answer is to own the light machine and hire or buy the heavy one only if base preparation is a regular part of your work.

Plate compactor or roller

Use a plate compactor for confined areas, trenches, around structures and on paver bases. Use a roller for open runs where you need to cover area. Sites that try to do trench work with a roller end up with a settled patch six months later, and sites that try to compact a whole yard with a plate compactor lose days.

Engine or motor

Petrol engine machines go anywhere and need no supply. Electric motor machines are quieter, cost less to run and are the sensible choice for enclosed work such as basements and warehouses, where exhaust in a confined space is a genuine safety problem.
